Equally dazzling is Orff’s stage cantata based on medieval poems, Carmina Burana, which never fails to captivate audiences from the first bars with its bombastic, now-iconic opening performed by full orchestra and choir. Its twenty-five movements honor and celebrate good fortune, springtime, nature, love, and the joys of youth, and culminate in a final reprise of the opening which guarantees to leave a lasting impression.
